Hollywood Movie: 'Piranha 3D' Review

Hollywood Movie: 'Piranha 3D' Review
Film: "Piranha 3D"; Cast: Steven R. McQueen, Jessica Szohr, Adam Scott, Elisabeth Shue, Kelly Brook, Riley Steele, Richard Dreyfuss; Director: Alexandre Aja; Rating: **

It is a genre that has been tackled many times over, a horror that lurks underwater, terrorising anything that sticks out even its leg into the water. "Piranha" had a chance to score one up on these. Sadly, the only thing new about this second remake of the 1978 original is 3D.

After a minor earthquake come out prehistoric water predators, a costal town has to find ways to survive, especially its single mother sheriff, her teenage son and two other children.

There isn't much of a story in the film. And neither does director Alexandre Aja have Steven Speilberg's ability to create tension despite having thousands of piranhas at his disposal. The audiences have also changed.

The film tries to make up by showing a few semi-naked teenage bodies in the beginning and too much gore, blood and mutilated bodies later on.

Call it beauties and the beasts, the former on the surface, the latter stalking under water. And though the film engages in parts, it does not completely hold the audience attention, despite the use of a good dosage of cliches, heroic sacrifice and damsel-in-distress.

What is interesting, especially for the fans of Hollywood science fiction, is cameos by some science fiction veterans, especially Richard Dreyfuss ("Jaws") and Christopher Lloyd ("Back to the Future").

3D sadly cannot compensate for the lack of cinematic tension which comes from good story telling techniques. Thus the only thing that you end up seeing new in the film is too much of blood and gore. If you enjoy that, this is your film.

Aishwarya Rai is director's delight at 37

Aishwarya Rai is director's delight at 37For most leading ladies in tinsel town, their career takes a downfall after they touch 30. But certainly not in the case of Aishwarya Rai, who continues to flourish in Bollywood as she turns 37 Monday and has two mega projects - "Action Replayy" and "Guzaarish" - lined up for release.

The former beauty queen has come a long way from being crowned Miss World in 1994, to working in Tamil films, moving to Bollywood and finally topping it up with international fame through movie projects as well as attending prestigious foreign film festivals.

But all through her 13-year film career, filmmakers feel she has remained a director's delight, and is here to stay for a long time to come.

"Aishwarya always followed me during the shooting of 'Taal', and is a complete director's actor. I'm proud she has evolved so much as an actor. She is giving good performances, she has achieved international fame, and she is leading a happy married life - what else can she ask for from life? But she is as grounded as ever," filmmaker Subhash Ghai told IANS.

The director, who worked with Aishwarya in 1999, says the actress will "definitely be in Bollywood for another 10 years" and is looking forward to associating with her once again.

Ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who gave Aishwarya's career a big push with "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" followed by "Devdas", says she is a timeless beauty.

"Aishwarya is my muse, my jaan and I get terribly excited when I make a film with her because she is very, very special. Some people are timeless and Aishwarya will be there for another 20 years," said Bhansali, whose third project with the actress, "Guzaarish", releases Nov 19.

Aishwarya, who married actor Abhishek Bachchan in 2007, has broken the notion that married actresses discontinue their film careers... and her husband is proud of her.

"I feel great about Aishwarya's achievements, I'm very proud of her. Whatever adulation she has got, she truly deserves it. I'm happy that she broke the notion that women can't work after marriage. Why are we so regressive in our thinking? If she wants to work, her audience wants to see her, what is people's problem? I as a husband am very happy that she is doing so well. I think she is doing better work now," Abhishek had said.

Aishwarya started acting in 1997 with Tamil film "Iruvar", followed by her Bollywood debut in the same year opposite Bobby Deol in "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya" - both of which flopped.

But the next year, she won her first Filmfare Best Actress award South for Tamil film "Jeans". She also bagged the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Bhansali's "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam".

She gave a power-packed performance in "Taal", but then delivered a string of duds like "Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai"(2000), "Dhai Akshar Prem Ke"(2000), "Albela" (2001), "Hum Kisise Kum Nahi"(2001).

But it was Bhansali's "Devdas" that resurrected her career and fetched her another Filmfare award in the Best Actress category.

She also gave good performances in "Chokher Bali"(2002), "Raincoat" (2004), "Guru"(2006), "Dhoom 2", "Provoked"(2007), "Jodhaa Akbar" (2008) and "Sarkar Raj" (2008). She recently featured in Mani Ratnam's "Raavan" and opposite superstar Rajnikanth in "Robot".

Some of her English projects include "Bride & Prejudice" (2003), "Mistress of Spices", "The Last Legion" (2007) and "Pink Panther".

According to a 2009 Forbes list, Aishwarya Rai is India's most bankable star in Hollywood, and is also counted among the 100 most beautiful women in the world.

She has been attending many international film festivals and was also the first Indian actress to be on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 2003.

Now she is gearing up for the release of "Action Replayy" on Diwali and "Guzaarish", and is busy promoting them. But she hopes to spend some time with her family as she steps into her new year.

Kangana Ranaut walks the ramp in bridal wear

Kangana Ranaut walks the ramp in bridal wearActress Kangana Ranaut walked the ramp in a pink Victorian dress at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week but the showstopper said she was against people spending excess money on opulent weddings.

"A wedding is about two people tying the knot...Not about others. I'm strictly against criminal wastage of money on weddings. We should avoid unnecessary people on the wedding. Instead we should give the money saved from that to charity and do good to someone else," Kangana told IANS.

The actress, known for serious roles like in "Gangster", "Fashion" and "Life In A Metro", walked the ramp as the showstopper for designers Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor Saturday evening.

So what are her plans for her own wedding?

"I really don't know. I'm quite young so I don't think about my marriage yet," the 23-year-old said.

Asked why they chose Kangana as the showstopper for their show, designet Anjalee said: "She is fabulous. Everyone saw how she sizzled on the ramp and I knew that she will do complete justice to our label."

"What I designed for her was keeping her in mind. I knew that she represents a modern, independent woman of today so I wanted to design something that will suit her personality. Also, I gave the colour combination to suit her complexion," she added.

The collection consisted mostly of bridal gowns with a Victorian touch, studded with Swarovoski crystals. The colour palette ranged from beige, peach, grey, white and baby pink to orange, fuschia, yellow, green and gold.

"I wanted a collection that would present an 18th century look and this is my first fashion week ever, so I wanted to bring alive all the designs of gowns that my label represents," said Anjalee.

Julianne Moore isn't bother with ageing

Julianne Moore isn't bother with ageingHollywood actress Julianne Moore has vowed never to undergo cosmetic surgery to change her look as she thinks it won't make her feel any younger.

The 49-year-old actress insists she would still feel her age, regardless of how her appearance changes.

"First and foremost, I'm an actor and so I don't want to do anything to my face. I can do whatever I want, and I'm still going to be 49 years old, it's not going to change anything," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.

"I don't know that I'm going to look any younger, I'm just going to look like I've had something done to my face."

The "Kids Are Alright" star, who has two children with husband Bart Freundlich, also spoke of how much more pleasure she gets from life now that she is a mother.

"Motherhood makes it bigger and fuller and larger. I don't think you really understand as a younger person that your life experience is going to be that meaningful.

"I had no idea that all this experience and all my interactions, and my parenting, and my marriage, how all that profoundly changes you, how far forward you go emotionally, with all of them," she said.

Urmila Matondkar walks ramp in bridal attire

Urmila Matondkar walks ramp in bridal attireBollywood actress Urmila Matondkar, who has not been seen in films for a long time, made an appearance -- but not in front of the camera. She sashayed down the ramp for designer Nisha Sagar at the ongoing Amby Valley India Bridal Week (AVIBW) Saturday.

Wearing a colourful, heavily-studded lehenga and corset, the actress walked down the ramp, joined by actor Govinda's daughter Narmada, who flaunted a blue and green, flowy chiffon dress with crystals.

"The kind of clothes I have designed this time I think Urmila and Narmada fitted the palette and the cuts very well. So they were a very good choice," Sagar told IANS.

Urmila, who has done hit films like "Rangeela", "Judaai", "Satya" and "Pyar Tune Kya Kiya", didn't interact with the media after the show.

Sagar's collection, which was in association with the Gitanjali group, was a melange of bright and vibrant hues - royal blue, emerald green, lime green with a subtle hint of pink and orange. The embroidery was detailed with gold work and Swarovski stones.

The show brought forward designs in saris, lehenga's with corsets, churidar and anarkali suits, teamed with jackets. For men the collection included sherwanis with dhotis and salwars. Material used was majorly chiffon, velvet, organza, net and silk.

David Dhawan to bring together Salman Khan and Govinda in 'Partner' sequel

David Dhawan to bring together Salman Khan and Govinda in 'Partner' sequelDavid Dhawan has taken it upon himself to bring together Govinda and Salman Khan, both of whom reportedly are not on speaking terms any more.

David, their close associate, and who has done the maximum number of films with them, is now in the process of bringing them together for the sequel to "Partner".

But stories about the real-life rift between the reel-life partners are taking a toll on David.

He is toying with the idea of hosting a party to celebrate the Salman-Govinda friendship.

"And why just the Salman-Govinda friendship? It will be to celebrate the Salman-Govinda-David friendship. I get very disturbed when I hear about their so-called rift. Arrey yaar, both are far above such bickering. Look at Govinda's track-record. He has been at the top for decades. As for Salman, with 'Dabangg' he has proved he is beyond all competition," Dhawan says.

"I hate to see people talking about two of my closest friends in this negative way. So yes, a party celebrating Salman and Govinda's friendship and my friendship with them seems a good idea," he adds.

The director also says he has his hands full in the coming months.

Says David: "I'm committed to directing a film 'Rascals' for Sanjay Dutt Productions from next month. Dutt is one of my oldest and closest friends. The first film I directed had Sanju in it. Then, I'm committed to directing 'Partner 2' for Salman Khan and Govinda. So, yes, my career is devoted to friends."

Family, naturally, would have to look elsewhere. This is proven by the fact that his younger son Varun is making his debut in a Karan Johar film.

Says David: "All I can tell you at the moment is that my elder son Rohit is directing his first film 'Desi Boyz' and my younger son Varun is going to be an actor. I'd have liked to launch both in their respective careers. But I am committed to making films with my friends."

"Rascals" will feature Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Dvgn and Kangna Ranaut. It will be a typical David Dhawan comedy.

Argues David: "Why not? Why open the car bonnet to check the motor, when the vehicle is running just fine? When others are copying my style why should I move away from it?"

Karan Johar to call RGV for 'Koffee with Karan'

Karan Johar to call RGV for 'Koffee with Karan'Karan Johar says he would like to call filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma on the third season of his talk show "Koffee with Karan" to clear the air but added that it was "fun to be sarcastic" through the media.

"I will surely call Ram Gopal Varma. I don't know what would be the rating of that show but I just want to clear the air. We are fun loving people. It's fun to be sarcastic through media," Karan said as the third season of his show was unveiled.

"I was searching for two-three more directors who I can go against, but I am not getting anyone. Like season three of ‘Koffee with Karan", it's third season with Ram Gopal Varma also. It's continuing," he added.

Asked if the show would have been as popular if he hadn't been the host, Karan said:"Never. No one would have come...."

The third season of "Koffee with Karan" will be aired on STAR World from Nov 7.

Hollywood Movie: 'Legend of The Guardians' Review

Hollywood Movie: 'Legend of The Guardians' ReviewFilm: "Legend of The Guardians"; Director: Zack Snyder; Voiceovers: Jim Sturgess, Helen Mirren, Hugo Weaving, Ryan Kwanten; Ratings: ***1/2

Right from the first scene of the film where an owl gracefully sweeps low under an azure sky, you know you're in for a different ride. And true to this promise, maverick director Zack Snyder, who directed the "Adrenalin Rush 300" and the almost unfilmable graphic novel "Watchmen", does not disappoint.

Soren is a Barn owl who loves stories about the legend of the guardians and their fight to defeat the evil warlord Metal Beak. His brother Kludd is more realistic. When a naughty night's adventure goes wrong, the two brothers are kidnapped by men of Metal Beak to train them to take on the Guardians.

Soren escapes with another owl Gylfie and heads out to warn the Guardians of this sinister plot. But no one knows where the Guardians live?

The core strength of this film is its spectacular visuals that land smoothly in the imagination of viewers. The conceptualisation and execution of a few scenes are exemplary especially the one where Soren learns to trust his instinct when thrown into a whirlpool and where towering flames curl up like waves and he glides through it like riding a wave. And 3D only accentuates this realistic feast for the eyes.

The weakness of the film is its writing which could have been quirkier. Also, the pace of the film quickens at a few crucial times where a few moments meditation could have helped. Maybe the screenwriters had a problem translating the first three volumes of the series "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" by Kathryn Lasky into one film. The sequels hopefully will take care of these little problems.

The film uses obvious but apt metaphors to attack fascism. Like Hitler, Metal Beak believes in the supremacy of the 'pure ones'. Time and again, fascist racism keeps raising its ugly head in the world and hence, simple films like this serve as reminders and warnings against it. There's always need for new guardians to "arise from the mist to defend the weak and vanquish evil".

No matter how much the world advances, it will always need the simple values of bravery and honour especially from those guardians who want to protect it against different types of evils.

Akshay Kumar's designer outfit to be auctioned

Akshay Kumar's designer outfit to be auctionedBollywood star Akshay Kumar's black sherwani, designed by Bangalore-based designer Ramesh Dembla, will be auctioned after he wears it at the grand finale of his signature campaign Saturday against the use of the word 'retard'.

The actor, who is the brand ambassador for 'Special Olympics Bharat', will be walking at the event titled 'Be a Fan of Dignity' - being held to motivate people to eradicate the use of the 'r-word' in reference to mentally challenged people.

Dembla is excited about being associated with the cause.

"Akshay called me up and said he would like me to do this show. I was very excited about being associated with such a sensitive cause," Dembla told IANS.

The designer has made a black sherwani for Akshay to wear for the show.

His collection of 80 outfits will be dominated by black, red and gold.

"I wanted to portray certain emotions through my show. So my usage of red, black and gold signifies bravery, determination and pride, respectively. My show is called 'Nishtha', which means dignity and we are working towards the cause of the dignity of the mentally challenged," said Dembla.

Akshay will also lead a pledge at the ceremony where everyone present will take an oath to eradicate the use of the 'r-word' in reference to mentally-challenged people.

The actor is attempting to ban the usage of the word retard in all languages across India.

Then we will fly together to Berlin to spend his birthday with his family and close friends, which is me," Karan told IANS after unveiling the third season of his talk show "Koffee with Karan" here at Novotel Hotel Friday.

Peepli Live's Natha is enjoying being a journalist

Peepli Live's Natha is enjoying being a journalistHe became a household name after playing Natha in the hit film "Peepli Live" and now Omkar Das Manipuri is being seen on TV as a real life journalist covering the Bihar elections. He is very happy with his new role, but does have one regret - not being able to meet youth icon Rahul Gandhi.

"I always wanted to be a journalist or at least play it once in reel or real. And now I am working as one for Live India's 'Patna Live' show and I am really enjoying it. The channel offered it to me and I really liked it and took it," Manikpuri told IANS on telephone during his Bihar sojourn.

"It feels good to play yourself and that too when you are on the job. Since people have seen my film, wherever I go I tell them beforehand that I am approaching them as a journalist and not as an actor. I ask about their worries, demands etc and people treat me like a journalist now," added the Chhattisgarh-based theatre actor.

Manikpuri started his Bihar journey from Patna Oct 22 and has been travelling since then - the assembly polls are on from Oct 21-Nov 20. He has visited places like Hajipur, Mahua and Motihari. "I met politicians like Arun Jaitley, Lalu Prasad and even Shatrughan Sinha.

"I couldn't meet Rahul Gandhi when I visited Majhi village due to excess security. I wanted to meet him," said Manikpuri.

He dresses in a kurta, jacket and teams it up with either jeans or a trouser for his new role and describes his wardrobe as a "journalist's costume"!

Life changed for the 39-year-old when he featured as Natha in Anusha Rizvi's directorial debut "Peepli Live". Produced by Aamir Khan, it's a satire on farmer suicides where Manikpuri played the main character and the subsequent response from the media and political parties made him the talk of the town.

"The media was after me in the movie, so I thought let's try and be one and find out how much fun it is to be a journalist. And trust me, it is loads of fun," quipped the actor-turned-scribe, a native of Brindanagar in Bhilai.

Any particular style he is adhering to as a journo?

"No. I am just approaching the masses as a normal journalist and as their representative. There is no script or anything involved. I take their questions and queries to politicians and ask them the same."

He has no qualms about the amount of running around involved in his new vocation. "That's ok because in every line you have to struggle hard."

Asked if the Natha image has overshadowed his real self, he said: "No. There is nothing like that because people used to love me earlier and now they love me more. And Natha is just a character. There has been no difference in their appreciation for me. People still love me the same."

Manikpuri is going to trudge different paths in the state, "however, I will try if I can get a day or two as leave for Diwali".

He started his career as a performer in the local form of folk theatre called Nacha. Performing often in makeshift and open air stages, he honed his skills as a singer, dancer, mimic and a stand-up comic before joining Habib Tanvir's Naya Theatre as an actor.

With them he performed on timeless classics such as "Agra Bazaar", "Charandas Chor" and "Sadak" before getting his big break in films.

As far as future projects are concerned, he is "open to doing everything, whether it is films or TV".

"If I am wanted as a journalist then I'd love to do that too. I have a film too with a working title called 'Alap'," said the actor while adding emphatically that he would "never leave theatre".

Karan Johar wants to interview Aamir Khan

Karan Johar wants to interview Aamir KhanDirector Karan Johar, who is coming up with the third season of "Koffee with Karan", said he would be honoured to bring and interview superstar Aamir Khan in his popular talk show.

"I had a chat with Aamir. I am trying to have him in this season. I think Aamir has proven his mettle as a filmmaker, actor and as a personality I think we should all be really proud of. Aamir conceptually has said that we would do it but we are yet to figure out a date and a schedule. It would be my honour to interview Aamir Khan," Karan told reporters here Friday.

For the first time, actor couple Abhishek and Aishwarya would be appearing in any talk show together after their marriage.

"It was a great to have Abhi and Ash, there are my friends only. After their marriage, it's their first appearance together in a talk show. There were many things that I wanted to know, which I think audience would love to know because they are really one of the royal couple of Bollywood," said Karan.

Stories were making rounds that estranged couple actor Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra would appear together in the show, but Karan rubbished the speculations showering praise on their acting skills.

"There is a media conjecture but I haven't spoken to them (Shahid and Priyanka). They are great couple on screen. I would say ‘Kaminey' was a fantastic film and Shahid and Priyanka are big reason for that. I would love to have Shahid and Priyanka together," said Karan.

Karan maintains that he wouldn't take advantage of his personal rapport with the stars to unravel their secrets beyond a certain level.

"I never offend any of my guests. I try to make them feel comfortable as I invite them to my show. Yes, some sequences are revealed, some fun conversation happened but I don't think anything is offensive," said Karan.

"There are new enemies, new lovers and new controversies, so we will talk on that," he added.

"Koffee with Karan" would be aired on STAR World from Nov 7.

Mel Gibson could be behind bars

Mel Gibson could be behind barsHollywood actor Mel Gibson may go to jail for contempt of court if he is found guilty of failing to pay child support to former partner Oksana Grigorieva for their daughter Lucia.

The 54-year-old actor is accused by ex-partner Oksana Grigorieva of breaching a court order to provide $20,000 a month in child support for their daughter Lucia and if found guilty at a Nov 10 court hearing Gibson could face jail.

"For three consecutive months, Mel has paid Oksana somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000 each month, it varies, but either way, it is well short of what a judge instructed he must deliver the mother of his child," femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

Oksana's attorney Lisa Bloom claimed Mel was a "deadbeat dad" who is trying to "bully" Oksana out of the money he is supposed to hand over to her.

"Mel Gibson, at this point, is a deadbeat dad."

Asked why Gibson who is rumoured to be worth $600 million had failed to pay the monthly figure, she said: "Because he wants to continue to bully Oksana. This is a pattern of behaviour that has gone on and on and he thinks he can take advantage of the mother of his daughter."

Saif Ali Khan is not in Khan-War

Saif Ali Khan is not in Khan-WarActor Saif Ali Khan says he is not in competition with the three other Khans of Bollywood - Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman. He is happy with the position he has in the industry and adds that he has "a long way to go".

"They have worked in iconic and more successful films. Aamir's debut movie 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' was a superhit, Salman's 'Maine Pyar Kiya' was also a superhit, Shah Rukh's done equally good. I am really happy with the position where I am," Saif told reporters here Friday.

"I look forward to doing better films and rising up to that position, but they are senior to me and have worked in great films. They completely deserve the position they are in. I have a lot of respect for them," he said.

The actor was speaking at the Epicentre Auditorium in Apparel House, Gurgaon to join celebrations with the Taj Enlighten Film Society, which has been validated as India's Largest Film Society by the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI).

Although Saif has carved a niche for himself in the industry, he says he has a long way to go.

"I think I do have a niche. I think I have the saleability, I have the ability to roll a project as a producer as well as the lead actor, which in itself is substantially satisfying achievement. But am I satisfied with the depth of the niche? No, of course not. I want it to be much deeper, work harder. I have a long way to go. Work is in progress."

The actor is now busy with his first production venture spy thriller "Agent Vinod", which also stars Kareena Kapoor in the lead.

"It is a very basic story. We are working hard on it and trying to take the action and the drama to another level," he said.

After "Omkara", he is again in talks with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj to star in his new film.

"I am looking forward to working with Vishal Bhardwaj. We are on the verge of finalising things," he added.

Dia Mirza sizzles as a bride on ramp

Dia Mirza sizzles as a bride on rampBollywood beauty Dia Mirza looked stunning in a white wedding lehenga as the showstopper for designer Rocky S. on the opening day of the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week here.

Giving an unconventional approach to his collection, Rocky used white for his showstopper -- a colour not usually used for weddings.

"What is interesting is to see an Indian bride in a white lehenga. So surreal and beautiful. The garment is stunning and I think that in itself is a reflection of the line. What Rocky is trying to do with this collection is asking why stick with the mould? Break it and try something new," Dia told IANS late Friday.

"And I think it works very well because wearing it I felt beautiful. The garment is stunning and quite honestly, if I were to be getting married, white could be quite a colour for me," the actress said.

Rocky's collection also entailed other shades including maroon, red, burgundy, beige, brown, pink, peach, grey and black along with a few more whites.

"The signature colours were black and white but I have used a lot of other hues too. I feel today we are out of the typical Indian colours. We are now in a new generation, when you see the collection you will realise that it is styled in a very modern way," said Rocky.

"Just because it is a bridal collection, we don't have to be completely Indian in our approach. We are today's people and we dress up in a very different manner than just wearing a typical lehenga or a salwar kameez," he added.

The designer's collection, along with Indian lehenga's and sarees, also included varied cocktail dresses and westernised kurtis and tights.

The show also had something for the men. Male models showcased what a bridegroom can look forward to this wedding season. Velvet blazers, bright, embroidered and plain sherwanis and classic tuxedos completed the men's collection.

The show, however, did face a slight glitch, when a model sporting a net sari, slipped while coming down the stairs.

Charlie Sheen found naked in restaurant toilet

Charlie Sheen found naked in restaurant toilet"Two and a Half Men" actor Charlie Sheen was reportedly found naked and covered in cocaine in restaurant toilet.

Sheen was taken to hospital earlier this week for psychiatric tests after he allegedly trashed a hotel room and was found nude with a prostitute. He was apparently caught with the Class A drug all over his face with no clothes on.

"Before Charlie flipped out at the hotel and police were called, he was wasted at the restaurant. He was snorting cocaine and drinking vodka. He was also drinking wine. And he was wasted," femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

The actor is believed to have been in the restaurant with his assistant Rick and two of their male friends, when he asked four women to join them.

According to the report, Sheen was snorting cocaine and drinking vodka and wine. One of the women, porn star Christina Walsh, was apparently promised $12,000 by Sheen if she spent the night with him.

It is believed the couple returned to his hotel room with the intention of taking drugs and having sex, but police shortly arrived to discover him drunk and naked in the trashed suite.

An insider claims the altercation began when Charlie couldn't find his wallet to pay for Christina's "services", and accused her of stealing it.

"That's when Charlie flipped out and Christina fled into the bathroom and locked the door. He was pounding on it and that led to the series of phone calls with the police showing up. Now she's furious because he still never paid her!"

The actor was enjoying a mini-break with his ex-wife Denise Richards and their two daughters Sam and Lola - who were staying at the same hotel but in a separate room - at the time of the alleged altercation, for which the actor could be charged for holding Christina against her will.

Kim Kardashian admires natural look

Kim Kardashian admires natural lookReality TV star Kim Kardashian says she feels sexier when she's not wearing any make-up even though she is known for her glamorous looks.

"It's kind of refreshing just to put my hair up in a ponytail at night time. I feel a lot sexier without make-up on - but in my room at home," femalefirst.co.uk quoted her as saying.

"I would literally wear overalls, Converse or Adidas sneakers. I used to wear cute tight ones overalls! I don't own them now but I used to, and they were cute. We would always wear them, me and all of my friends, wear them to Magic Mountain."

Although she feels sexier without make-up, Kim recently revealed how she spent years working hard to master her cosmetic application skills and went to beauty school aged 14 to help her learn the basics.

"I went to beauty school to learn how to apply make-up properly, so I wouldn't have too much on or look crazy."

Hollywood Movie: 'From Paris With Love' Review

Hollywood Movie: 'From Paris With Love' ReviewFilm: "From Paris With Love"; Director: Pierre Morel; Cast: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kasia Smutniak; Rating: *1/2

Luc Besson began his film career on a firm ground with "The Last Combat". Not many debutant directors get away with a silent film. He did. Sadly, what he has been doing since is a perfect example of potential gone waste. Like "From Paris With Love", based on his story and which he has produced.

Reece (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent, working with the American Embassy in Paris, who has a loving girlfriend in Caroline (Kasia Smutniak). He gets an assignment to pick up a CIA operative who is on a mission Reece is clueless about.

The operative, Wax (John Travolta), has methods that are not even closely textbook. Reece is angry when Wax pushes him to the edge of his patience without telling him about the mission. However, when they do find out, Reece discovers he is deeper in this mess then he had ever expected.

"From Paris With Love" begins with a barrage of cliches. A decent cine-watcher can literally predict almost every single line that the characters speak before they do. And it continues for one third of the movie. However, things get better when the action starts. Though there's nothing original about the action either, the sharp editing, cars blowing up and rockets being fired, up the ante.

Travolta plays an agent who never works by the book. Nothing original in that either. What is original perhaps is the amount of attention this secret agent draws to himself. You often end up wondering how he became one in the first place.

Overall, if you are an action junkie, you might enjoy a few scenes in this predictable thriller. But if you are expecting jaw-dropping stunts that Hollywood is famous for, you had better give this film a miss.

In 'Top Gun 2', Tom Cruise to do a cameo

In 'Top Gun 2', Tom Cruise to do a cameoHollywood superstar Tom Cruise will reprise his role from his 1986 classic "Top Gun" for a cameo in a sequel to the same.

The screenwriter for the recently confirmed sequel to the movie has found a way to incorporate Crusie's 'Maverick' character into the new film and hopes the Hollywood star will join the cast, reports contactmusic.com.

A source informed that the project, which will be directed by Tony Scott has said that writer Christopher McQuarrie has penned a role for Cruise's character while a source close to the star also revealed that Cruise will agree to the "smaller" part, providing it's not too "obvious".

39-year-old Scott recently confirmed that he is set to get behind the camera for the project, but the film will cover a completely new territory, in order to fit in with modern aviation technology.

"It's a whole different world now. These computer geeks - these kids play war games in a trailer and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones", said Scott.

"I don't want to do a remake. I don't want to do a reinvention. I want to do a new movie," he added.

'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' offers difficult role to Abhishek Bachchan

'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' offers difficult role to Abhishek BachchanActor Abhishek Bachchan, who is playing freedom fighter Surya Sen in the forthcoming period film "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey", says lack of reference about Sen made it difficult for him to essay the part.

"As an actor it was difficult because there was no ready reference. While discussing someone who is a true life character, you can't be untrue or deviate too far," said Abhishek at a press conference.

"If we just conceive a character from our imagination, it's easy to play because you can let your imagination run wild and then work within the parameters set by the director.

"Being a true life character made it slightly challenging because we didn't have much information. There is no video or film footage on Surya da. There were very little photographs of him and most of them were post his arrest, post the uprising," she added.

Based on Manini Chatterjee's book "Do and Die: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34", "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey" is a true story of the revolution of 1930 against the British which happened in Chittagong, then a district of undivided Bengal.

The extensive research on the characters by director Ashutosh Gowariker made it easy for Abhishek.

"It became easy because Ashu (Ashutosh) was so well prepared. He is so confident about what he wants. And that makes your job much easier. He did extensive research, which he shared with everyone. Everyone had read the book, so everyone kind of knew the skeleton and the fleshing out was done by Ashutosh," said Abhishek.

Actress Deepika Padukone plays freedom fighter Kalpana Dutt in the movie.

David Beckham gives sex education to son

David Beckham gives sex education to sonJust like an intelligent father, David Beckham had a talk about sex with his 11-year-old son Brooklyn.

The 35-year-old soccer player who is married to singer-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham, sat down with his eldest child to discuss the facts of life because he has started at a new school and has begun attracting interest from girls, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

However, David found the conversation so awkward he had to leave the room and leave it to his wife.

"Brooklyn is going to a new school. He is noticed and is getting attention from girls and he likes it, so we had the sex talk," said David.

"I had to walk out of the room because Brooklyn's looking at me at the corner of his eye, kind of laughing. It was a serious talk and I had to get out! I couldn't take it," he added.

Aishwarya Rai dances like a dream

Aishwarya Rai dances like a dreamIndian choreographer Longinus Fernandes made actors in "Slumdog Millionaire" dance to his tunes and also directed a sequence in Hollywood film "Eat, Pray Love", but it is Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai who bowled him over with her "dream" like dance moves.

He has choreographed the song "Udi udi" in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's forthcoming film "Guzaarish".

"It's very unusual. We have never seen Aishwarya doing these steps. It's very different from what she has done in the past and she has done a brilliant job with it. She is a wonderful dancer and dances like a dream," Longinus told IANS in an interview.

"It did not take her long to learn the dance but it did take her some time to perfect it and to get into the mood of the character," he added.

The song is slowly becoming a rage especially because of Aishwarys's impressive and graceful moves in a black and red long dress.

"Sanjay wanted to make the song different and unique. I asked him if we can add a little bit of Spanish to it and give it a raw, earthy feel. He liked the idea, so we gave the whole dance a look which is very rustic to make it look as natural as possible," said the dance director.

Longinus, who won a Filmfare Award for best choreography for the song "Pappu can't dance sala..." in "Jaane tu Ya Jaane Na", had assisted Farah Khan for a couple of years.

It was on the set of dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa", where Longinus was a contestant and Bhansali a judge, that the two met.

"It was not very difficult for me to get this break because Sanjay Leela Bhansali has always been very fond of me. He was a judge with 'Jhalak...' and he told me that time that he will work with me for sure. And he kept his promise.

"I did a small piece in 'Saawariya' too, but that went unnoticed. But with this one Sanjay and I are so happy that people are actually liking the sequence," he said.

Also starring Hrithik Roshan as paraplegic patient, "Guzaarish" is slated to hit screens Nov 19.

Peepli Live's Natha met journo leaving Rahul Gandhi behind

Peepli Live's Natha met journo leaving Rahul Gandhi behindHe bowled audiences over with his vulnerable looks and acting prowess as Natha in the hit movie "Peepli Live", but actor Omkar Das Manikpuri is much happier covering the Bihar elections as a journalist. He does have one regret - not being able to meet youth icon Rahul Gandhi.

With them he performed on timeless classics such as as "Agra Bazaar", "Charandas Chor" and "Sadak" before getting his big break in films.

As far as future projects are concerned, he is "open to doing everything, whether it is films or TV".

"If I am wanted as a journalist then I'd love to do that too. I have a film too with a working title called 'Alap'," said the actor while adding emphatically that he would "never leave theatre".

"I've also donated personally. I wish I could do more. Indonesia, Haiti and Pakistan are all in need of these filters. Spread the word!" she added.

PETA to pay for Lindsay Lohan's rehab

PETA to pay for Lindsay Lohan's rehabPeople for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have offered to pay off actress Lindsay Lohan's rehab bill if she turns vegetarian.

Lohan is reportedly struggling to fund her treatment at the Betty Ford Center, reports dailystar.co.uk.

"We understand that you've fallen on tough economic times, so we're writing to you with an offer that we sincerely hope you'll consider," an official at PETA wrote in a mail to the actress.

"PETA will help pay your $50,000 bill for substance addiction treatment if you'll rid yourself of one more toxic substance: meat. As you know, a crucial part of any recovery is showing charity to others. One way to do this is to be kind to animals, the Earth, and your own body. You'll never regret it."

Lindsay, who voluntarily entered the facility last month, was told by the court that she must stay in rehab until Jan 3 and the troubled actress has been warned by Judge Elden Fox and her lawyer that this is her last chance at avoiding a long jail sentence.

Fox told the actress, who broke the terms of her probation when she failed two drugs tests for cocaine and amphetamines in September, she would face six months in prison if she provided another positive drugs test before her next court appearance.

Ranveer Singh claims to be a good kisser

Ranveer Singh claims to be a good kisserNewbie Ranveer Singh, who was reportedly in a relationship with co-star Anushka Sharma, says even though he wanted, he could not have retakes for the kissing scene with the actress in their forthcoming film "Band Baaja Baaraat".

"Kiss was a part of the script, so we had to do it and it has been treated very aesthetically. We did it in just one take. I tried to go wrong, but I was too good a kisser…damn," Mumbai boy Ranveer told IANS in an interview.

The actor is making his debut opposite Anushka in "Band Baaja Baaraat", produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by first timer Maneesh Sharma. The film is slated to release Dec 10.

Ranveer is all praise for his leading lady in the film, but remained tight-lipped about their off-screen relationship saying he is very much single.

"It was fantastic working with Anushka. She never tried to make me feel like I didn't know what I was doing. She has a tremendous amount of respect for me as a co-actor and I respect her for that.

"She is so confident that her confidence rubbed off on me. It's contagious. She is a brilliant actor, a natural actor who knows her job and does it professionally. I really learnt a lot from her. I am single and I wouldn't want to say more on that," said Ranveer, who is playing Bittoo Sharma in the film.

Throwing light on his character, he said: "My character is a Delhi University guy who doesn't believe in being focused. He just whiles away his time, doesn't care about his future and takes each day as it comes. But finally, he realises he needs to do something after college gets over and that's when he meets Anushka's character, who is opposite to him.

"She is focused, very determined and career oriented and knows exactly what to do in life and she is going for it with her blinkers on. So when my character meets her, he finds out that she is quite sorted out and latches on to her. He convinces her to start a business together. Thus they start a wedding planning firm and the journey begins from there."

Ranveer, who doesn't have a film background, did a course in acting from Indiana University and has also assisted director Shaad Ali on a couple of ad films.

So how was it playing a Delhi boy for this Mumbaikar?

"The most fun things that I did for the film was transforming into Bittoo. When the director went to Delhi to scout for locations, I went along with him. I let myself loose in Delhi University.

"For days I hung out with boys there. I made friends, chilled out with them, did things and even went to the classes. I spent time on the campus, clicked pictures, made videos of them and analysed what they liked, what they don't. I tried to pick up their lingo and their perspective on certain things.

"They just welcome you with open arms. It's testament to the coolness quotient of the people in Delhi University. They are so friendly and so warm. I met some really cool people there," he said.

Shilpa Shetty, Chitrangada Singh sizzles at Fashion WeekShilpa Shetty, Chitrangada Singh sizzles at Fashion WeekIn the backdrop of a majestic white set, showstoppers Shilpa Shetty and Chitrangada Singh sashayed the ramp as designer Tarun Tahiliani brought the curtains down on the latest edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week with a grand show.

Two larger than life trees were fabricated at the entry of the ramp and the show area was lit with orange, green, blue, red and yellow lights. The entire ramp was made of white jute while the ceilings were draped with white stripes.

Even though it was the grand finale, Tarun stuck to what he is best at -- contemporary designs with western silhouettes.

"Tarun has been like family to me. He is absolutely adorable. What is the best thing I like about him is that he brings out a new avatar in me every time and I love to walk for him," said Shilpa who looked stunning in a white lehenga and a net blouse.

On the other hand, actress Chitrangada set the ramp on fire as she walked in a silk blush gauze saree encrusted with crystallised elements.

Tarun's collection titled "New Democracy", aimed at providing a new direction to India's textiles, prints, fabrics, weaves and colours.

"As we get westernised, our Indianness is getting lost somewhere. My collection is an attempt to bring it back with the use of Indian handlooms and drapes," said Tarun.

"My inspiration has never been wealthy women. I get inspired by the poor or those on streets, because that's where you find the real Indianness," he added.

The collection included a range of kaftans, sarees, dresses, skirts, Jodhpuri trousers, churidars and lehengas. A turban and odhani fall enhanced the entire look of the line donned by the models on the ramp.

While fabrics included silk chiffons, voile, georgette and satin, the colour palette had hues and tints of sand, ivory, beige, taupe and charcoal. The collection also saw a lot of bandhani appliques and chikankari work.

The show came to an end with a thunderous applause as models danced to live music played by Sufi singers.

Akon's performance banned in Australia

Akon's performance banned in AustraliaR&B star Akon has been banned from performing at a gig in Melbourne after his 2009 concert in the city was marred by violence.

The singer was due to play at the Summerbeatz festival in the Rod Laver Arena Nov 25, but bosses at the venue have forbidden the star from going ahead with the show following last year's gig brawl, reports contactmusic.com.

Akon was performing at Melbourne's HiSense Arena as part of his co-headlining show with T-Pain last October when rival gangs began fighting, prompting the singer to halt the event.

At least 18 people, including two security guards, received medical treatment while nine were taken to hospital following the riots and Akon has now been forced to miss Melbourne out of his Australian tour, which kicks off next month.

The star's music promoter Dwayne Cross says in a statement: "Akon will not be performing in Melbourne on the Summerbeatz 2010 Tour. This is due to restrictions put on us by the Melbourne venue Rod Laver Arena. We have toured Akon in Australia many times before and we are extremely disappointed that Melbourne misses out on seeing such an amazing and popular performer, however, this situation is completely out of our hands."

The Melbourne show will go ahead with Ciara, Jay Sean, Travis MCCoy and Soulja Boy among the stars headlining.

In a world full of storms, she's my anchor. I live in a world of masks. I needed someone as real as she is. She is my home. She's the one I can come home to me. She has changed my life," he said.

Vivek, who entered Bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma's "Company" in 2002, was earlier engaged to model-turned-entrepreneur Gurpreet Gill. But they broke off and later the actor was linked to Aishwarya Rai.

Though Priyanka's father is no more, her mother adores Vivek, who is the son of seasoned actor Suresh Oberoi.

"She's (Vivek's mother-in-law-to-be) a major exponent of art. Our two families have been friends for years. And if I may say so, my family has earned great respect and dignity beyond cinema.

"Even on a personal level, it has taken me a long time to overcome the cynicism about my work outside movies. If you are sincere about what you do, respect finally has to come your way," said the actor who was recently seen in the biopic on slain factionist-turned-politician Paritala Ravi in "Rakta Charitra".

Begum Nawazish Ali: India can provide me better opportunities

Begum Nawazish Ali: India can provide me better opportunitiesPakistan's cross-dressing talk-show host Begum Nawazish Ali, who was hastened out of Mumbai to avoid a Shiv Sena backlash soon after being evicted from "Bigg Boss" house, says she would love to return as she can find better job opportunities here.

"At the moment Pakistan is plagued with problems. Entertainment is not a priority there. I am an entertainer and India can provide me with lots of work. If I get work, of course, I'll return," said Begum before leaving for Pakistan Saturday.

Ali Saleem, the Begum of TV show, said he was surprised when he found that Shiv Sena was targeting him and fellow Pakistani Veena Mallik for featuring in "Bigg Boss 4".

"I did hear about it. It surprised me. I saw no logic behind this kind of a protest. I didn't choose to be born in Pakistan. It's something that just happened to me. If I was born in Mumbai, I'd have been an Indian," he said.

Excerpts from interview:

Q: What are your plans?

A: As soon as I came out of "Bigg Boss", I went to a friend's house in Mumbai. In the morning, I returned to my hotel in an auto-rickshaw. This evening (Saturday) I leave Mumbai.

Q: You should have stayed a while?

A: I don't think the channel wants me to, not after the Shiv Sena's protests. I'm going back home, I'm missing my mom. I've been completely cut off inside "Bigg Boss". When I came out of the house, they didn't allow me to talk to my family until very late in the night. I got a mobile phone at 1 a.m. At that time I woke up my mom and dad. Both my parents had been watching me on "Bigg Boss" and were very proud of me.

Q: When you came out of "Bigg Boss", you must have heard of the political campaign to get you out of the country?

A: I did hear about it. It surprised me. I saw no logic behind this kind of a protest. Both Veena Malik and I were inside the house not as representatives of any country but as players in a game show. I didn't choose to be born in Pakistan. It's something that just happened to me. If I was born in Mumbai, I'd have been an Indian. Sixtythree years ago we were one nation. Why do we waste so much time in negativity?

Q: Do you plan to return to India?

A: I'd love to. I don't like to mince my words. At the moment Pakistan is plagued with problems. Entertainment is not a priority there. I am an entertainer and India can provide me with lots of work. When I come to India, I don't come as a Pakistani. I come here as an actor. If I get work, of course, I'll return.

Q: Was there a solidarity between you and Veena Malik in the "Bigg Boss" house?

A: Both Veena and I are from Pakistan and we're both from television. But we've met only two-three times. But obviously when you're abroad, then meeting someone from home means a lot. Even as a person I like Veena a lot. She's frank and she said what she had to in front of you. She isn't two-faced.

Q: You've a strong feminine side to your personality. Why did you choose to focus on the masculine side inside the "Bigg Boss" house?

A: I was born a man. But to become 'Begum' needs elaborate preparation. I need a whole team of people to dress me up.

Q: Are you saying Begum is just a character you play?

A: No, she is a part of me. But she's very high-maintenance.

Q: Is it difficult maintaining a bi-sexual life in a conservative society like Pakistan?

A: Not at all. Contrary to belief, Pakistan is not such a conservative country. I'm free to lead my life how I choose to.

Q: You live with your parents in Pakistan?

A: My parents are separated. I live with my mother in Islamabad. My father lives in Karachi. I spend a lot of time doing my television work in Karachi. When I'm there, I stay with my father. But my bonding with my mother is unique.

Q: Do you have a love life?

A: I had a love life. Now I am going to a normal life.
